Weightlifting has been included in the Summer Olympic Games' program in 1896, in 1904 and in 1920 and has been a part of it at every Summer Olympics since then. We'll see surely have the opportunity to watch weightlifting competitions during Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. What will happen to our sport afterwards depends on our efforts in the means of popularising it.
Nearly the same was stated by Tamás Aján (IWF president) in his a speech made at the Pacific Games 2015: "I know very well we have to work 24 hours a day and 365 days".

"Weightlifting is a core sport but we have to defend ourselves and I hope weightlifting will be on the Olympic Games 2024 sports programme and for the other Olympic Games also."
From-the editor note:
Let me remind the you that in order to be included in the Olympic program a sport should be first of all popular enough. So those sports which don't have top popularity often come across this problem. For example wrestling was removed from the Olympic Games core sports' list for 2020 Olympics and could return only as a non-core sport after defeating bids from baseball-softball and squash.
Hope we'll see these sports of ancient origin in all the Olympics.
How can we make our sport more popular? The very first thing is uploading our videos, the next one is struggling against the increasing use of doping, etc...
Thanks for the attention.
Good luck.
